2023-12-14: A Slow Day

Yesterday was a mess. Not necessarily a particularly bad mess, but I wasted most of it napping instead of being productive. Granted, one could certainly argue that, after a hectic few weeks of almost constant work and rehearsals back-to-back, a rest is both necessary and good.

The highlight of the 13th was a visit to the dentist. I’ve been seeing them since I was very young, my mother’s younger sister Aunt Becky used to work there as a hygienist even. Unlike my mom, I’m not afraid of the dentist. My winning grin is the result of years of dental and orthodontic work, and my experiences have been generally positive. The only negative experience I’ve really had was when my wisdom teeth were removed, since I couldn’t be anesthetized and I ended up getting nasty complications after which lasted a month and a half. Unfortuntately, yesterday morning was the worst dental experience I’ve had since I was a little kid, because I developed a tiny cavity. It’s very small but I have to go in next Tuesday to have it filled.

When I returned, I napped until dusk, and then took my sweet time packing my belongings so I could return home for break. I ended up leaving around 0130 this morning. Unfortunately, I was so tired that I neglected to see this year’s meteor shower.

I woke up this morning at a more reasonable time, 0900, and went through my usual morning routine (although I skipped breakfast, instead making some Kraft Dinner for lunch around noon). I’ve taken it easy today, and caught up with my father, although I should get around to those readings Dr. Lempa gave me for my thesis paper. He was even kind enough to lend me a copy of Goldberg’s “Honor, Politics, and the Law in Imperial Germany”. He’s a stand-up guy, Dr. Lempa.
