2024-11-25: Da Update and a Kaleidoscope of the Past

As I type this, it is 2121. I just got off the phone with my darling Angel Eyes, a very lovely girl who I am very grateful to have in my life, and who will remain pseudonymous for the time being. We talked for about fifty minutes, give or take, and we’ve been talking almost every night for the past month. I knew her from Moravian, but we reconnected with each other in the wake of my beloved grandmother, Catherine “Kate” Pfeiffer’s passing from the earth. It’s funny, we met at the Promenade on the 1st of November expecting to reconnect with a friend, and instead were both pleasantly surprised by just how well we clicked.

I’ve seen plenty of movies in the time since I’ve last updated this blog, and I’m tempted to do a megapost after I see Wicked with Angel Eyes and her family this Thanksgiving. So instead, I’ll give my hot takes: Coppola’s “Megalopolis” is good because (in the eternal words of Peter Griffin) it insists upon itself, and its flaws (were it any other movie) serve to reinforce the central thesis of the film, “Joker: Folie à Deux” is nowhere near as bad as most people say, and its biggest problem is that it didn’t double down on it being a musical (they had Lady Gaga for goodness’ sake!). “Smile 2” honestly didn’t need to be made but I’m glad it was, and despite the predictable ending the execution of said ending made me giggle in the theater with the biggest grin on my face. Despite “Singham Again” (the fifth installment in Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe) being blatant Hindutva—or if I’m being very charitable, Hindutva-adjacent—propaganda I absolutely got my money’s worth in sheer spectacle. The most recent adaptation of “The Crow” was one of the best unintentional comedies of the year because of how tryhard it was at being Grim™ and Edgy™. “Deadpool & Wolverine” was a fun movie, not necessarily a good one, but a fun one regardless.

I’ve seen other movies, of course, although I have enough dignity to refrain from making a Letterboxd profile. Right now though I’ve begun to take psychic damage, as is the norm. I’ll probably end up publishing this later in the evening, at the very least I won’t leave it as a draft like the dozens and dozens of other drafts I’ve got in my to-do list.

As I type this it is 1015 on Tuesday, the 26th of November. I ended up unable to coherently express my thoughts, and so I set this entry aside. Regardless, Angel Eyes and her father rewatched the original “Gladiator” last night and she had mixed feelings about it. I’m hungry, and likely going to go to the grocery store some time soon. My dreams linger on the past, or a kaleidoscope of the past anyway, although it’s been increasingly challenging to remember the contents of them. Funny, considering that I used to remember them clear as the sun at midday. Anyway, I should probably publish this, unedited (since editing is for cowards).
