2026-02-20: Bullet Time

One of the best things about not being dead is you can have sex.
Prof. Aimee Kahan, Feb. 2026 (while discussing the Rule Against Perpetutities)

Is that an off-color quote? Yes. Is it wise to have such a quote on a blog that future employers may read (but probably won’t)? I don’t know, but to paraphrase the eternal words of a shameless crook, it’s not off-color when the professor says it.

The Crim midterm went well, I hope. I drank so much caffeine that I spent the exam in bullet time. I crammed the elements of common law offenses like I was a Vancian mage preparing his daily spell slots, ready to fire and forget. I’m more confident about property crimes than homicide, but I can’t say much otherwise. Confidentiality and all that. I had a largely uneventful evening last night, still blitzed out of time on Celsius (or rather, keenly aware of every single passing second). I went to bed early and woke up late; in fact, I woke up frequently again. My dreams were very vivid and very useful for worldbuilding, more on that later. Today I had Property, and we continued our discussion of estate law and the Rule Against Perpetuities, going over numerous hypos in class to drill RAP analysis into our thick 1L skulls. I might see a movie later, I’m not sure. I wanna make sure I’m budgeting my time correctly, since I haven’t been lately. Something something idle hands.

I did the NYT Games for the first time in a while. My results for today are as follows:

I’m glad I got perfect Connections and Strands. I hope I can keep the streak going. On a totally unrelated note, someone was waving an Israeli flag at the corner of 34th and Market on Ash Wednesday, from the time I walked to class until I walked back to my apartment. Given current events, I think he was trying to provoke a reaction a la Johnny Somali. I would have mentioned it earlier in the week, but it slipped my mind with the MHLS meeting and all that.

I’m probably gonna cook up a light lunch once I get back to my apartment. I have plenty I could make. I’m gonna work on my Legal Methods brief, I have an argument to make and a hypothetical Plaintiff to own with facts and logic.
