On Thursday, we technically had Legal Methods, but in practice, it was an advertisement for the 2L and 3L clinics. It was hardly a thrilling matter, since Thursday evening we had the Public Interest Experience (PIE) Auction at the Kline Institute. The dress code was the maddeningly vague “auction attire”, so I used my old choir tux and substituted my turtleneck for the frilly shirt. As with most of the outfits I had tailored after the Plague™, it had since become baggy on me. I was counting on my cummerbund to save my silhouette, and I can say with confidence that it succeeded. I received compliments for it, “regal,” they said. I’m glad I didn’t go all out with the frilly shirt and the tie; I think it would have gone from “well-dressed” to “overdressed.”
Aside from socializing and partaking in hors d’oeuvres, the main draw of the event for me was karaoke. Due to its popularity, I only got two performances in: my old karaoke standbys of Enter Sandman (Metallica, 1991) and Mamma Mia (ABBA, 1975). Both were thankfully well-received. My public persona’s a lot more subdued here at Drexel Kline than it was at Moravian, so I imagine it came as a surprise to some of my classmates how much stage presence I could conjure up. I managed to get invited to McGillin’s after the auction, which I think is a good sign, socially? I ended up leaving early-ish because I had Property the next morning, and my walk home was cut short by the drizzle turning to downpour, necessitating a train ride. Thankfully, the stations near me are no longer closed.
Friday was a blur, with nothing of note happening. I had a virtual visit with one of my doctors after Property, but things didn’t really happen until Saturday. Kerry’s gonna be mailing my favorite sneakers back, which is good; I’m gonna get the last of her odds and ends to her when I can. Part of me wishes we could have remained friends, but that’s life, I guess. I went over to an old friend’s house up in Warrington; we got Rita’s, poked fun at YouTube videos of power lines exploding MST3K-style, and played Super Mario Galaxy 2. I’d never played it, nor did I play the original, and I was pretty bad at it (in a funny way), but I had a lot of fun regardless. It felt nice to hang out; I felt like myself.
Yesterday was another day of not much happening, save for housework. I air-fried some salmon filets and served them over mashed potatoes with garlic and onion. I also watched Rebel Moon Part II, and it was just as tedious and unwatchable a slog as the first one. I didn’t have Legal Methods this morning, so I left Anova around 1030, briefly stopping at Ed’s for two slices of pizza on the way over to campus. I got a cake pop and a slice of banana bread from a bake sale, and went to Dr. Coleman’s workshop on structuring the brief. I have LegReg in under an hour as of writing, I have my LM conference tomorrow afternoon, and my mock oral argument on Wednesday morning. I’m also MCing NLG’s Bingo Night, as I did last semester.
Tears are streaking down my face, hidden by sunglasses, when I think of her final goodbye, a simple “you too” in response to my “I wish [her] the best.” I still have more to say, and I’m pretty sure she does too, but for now there’s only silence. I’m probably just gonna listen to some shoegaze and zone out until class, maybe do some light writing on my draft post about geographic determinism, the differences between northern and southern Chinese cuisine, and how I’ve applied that model to the Gherdunnic nations.
