2026-04-15: The Spider

I wasn’t exaggerating about the heat earlier.

The worst part is the smell. Everyone’s smells are swimming through the air, mingling and multiplying as we all bake. No wonder the ancients believed in miasma theory.

The MHLS event went well! We gave out popsicles, and I carried the boxes up to the 3rd Floor Gallery. Given the weather, they went quickly, but not as quickly as one might expect. The interview went well, or so I hope. I should hear back within the next two days. Very exciting! Thankfully, I had a good hair day for it; my curls are curling as they should and as is proper. A shame I had to do it in an unused study room with poor lighting and the ambiance of an overtaxed AC, but such is life.

I looked to my left. There is a spider on the wall right next to me. About half the size of a fingernail. Probably screwed up by the heat just as we are. I’ve been scared of them since I was a kid, so it’s surprising how… fine I am with its presence. I know “local man unbothered by spider” is hardly newsworthy or anything, but it’s strange. It feels correct to let the spider be.
