I was almost late this morning. Operative word being “almost”. My dreams last night were very informative; I also thought of an unbelievably funny (if raunchy and in poor taste) joke around 4 AM, which I jotted down before heading back to sleep. It holds up, a shame the person who’d find it most funny is a stranger now.
I ended up waking up around 8 AM, and I showered around 8:30. Thankfully I was able to quickly assemble an outfit, and my hair is mostly cooperative; I’m wearing my white turtleneck, black (well, they’ve faded to charcoal grey) jeans- now somewhat oversized with my weight loss- and my glossy loafers. I also picked up snacks from the Lexis table yesterday, so I was able to have a very light (if woefully unbalanced) breakfast of a single serving of Pringles and a dime bag of Swedish Fish. The sky is grey, albeit more periwinkle than lilac (more cyan tinged than most shades of periwinkle, but I can’t quite pin down the exact shade). The air isn’t thick, but it’s warm regardless, and feels like mist though no mist exists. Not yet anyway, the rains have been on and off for a few days now.
Tuesday mornings are Professional Responsibility with McGrain (who you may remember from Crim last semester). We were talking about a few topics, Model Rules 1.1 through 1.4, on Competence, Diligence, and Communication. We also covered the implied duty of Honesty which lawyers have to their clients (although I think 8.4(c) all but states it outright, as does 1.4, given a client needs to be reasonably informed). We didn’t get to Miller, 412 N.W.2d 622 (Iowa 1987), but we covered In re Docking, 869 P.2d 237 (Kan. 1994).

In class I said that Docking’s egregious incompetence should have warranted disbarment, and that the main reason they went easy on him (public censure) was because he cooperated with the procedings, unlike the gentleman at the center of Miller. However, upon reflection, his cooperation would be enough to bump him down to suspension.
This popped into my head, but there were some satirical music videos on Old YouTube I saw when I was young. They were making fun of the tobacco, alcohol, and nuclear industries, using old stock footage from the early-mid 20th century for visuals. Unfortunately, for years they’d vanished, and I thought they’d been taken down for some reason. But no, actually, the creator just turned them into YouTube Shorts!
Society: We Really Do Be Living In One™
I have Dean’s Scholars shortly after noon, and since it’s for Con Law attendance is all but required. Until then, I’ve set up in the corner of the 3rd Floor Gallery by the vending machines, where I usually sit when I’m not in the LRC or on the patio/courtyard outside. The door to the main stairwell on this floor is broken, it slams shut instead of closing slowly. And when it slams, it slams loud. I mean, personally I think the metaphor is a bit on the nose, no? I’m not trying to imply that the Lord is a Wattpad-tier hack, that would be blasphemy. Then again, so’s the joke I came up with in my dream (indirectly). But as far as portents come it’s only marginally subtler than a piano falling on one’s head. Still working out the logistics for reconnecting with my old friends from MMI. A long while back one of them shared a German(?) term for rekindling old friendships and connections, but it slips my mind right now. I wanted to put it in the tags of this entry, but alas!
To be honest, I hope the door doesn’t slam shut in my face. It wouldn’t be the first time.
