Dancing at the coreSermon XV (Kirkbride, 2002)
At an hour to midnight on Friday, the sky was an almost-black aquamarine, and the clouds were corrugated gunmetal ripples against it; but an LED streetlight tuned to look incandescent drowned them out. Too bright to be incandescent, too clean. By an hour after midnight on Saturday, the clouds were like printer paper, cracked by onyx veins.

I attended Jared’s birthday along with half the law school, it seemed. Jared and Dani’s apartment is by no means small, but with so many of us occupying the space at once, things were fairly hectic in my view. I’m grateful regardless for their hospitality. After walking back to Anova, I ended up calling it a night at 1:08 exactly, having drunk my weight in vermouth earlier.
As my entries from last week can attest, the vibe’s been indescribable recently, and the weekend was no exception. I made plans for Saturday night, but they ended up going bust; it wasn’t entirely a wash, though, as I was able to do plenty of organizing, especially alphabetizing my bookshelf and moving my RPG/hobby books to the shelf under my coffee table to free up space. Sunday was a fairly relaxed day. I won’t disclose the finer details, but that afternoon’s dinner [lunch] was grilled hot dogs with a side of avocado toast, with chocolate and charcuterie as a snack after dinner; supper that evening was a homemade spiced tomato cream and mushroom soup.

The weather’s matched the vibe at least. It’s been stark, cold, soothing wind and bitter rain, and dark skies streaked by sunbeams. It feels clean outside, like the world is resetting itself, rebooting. If I may be candid (and I may, because this is my blog), the line between dreaming and waking has been blurred recently. And by blurred, I mean all but nonexistent. Life hasn’t been a nightmare, but it hasn’t been a good dream either; it’s met all my [subconscious] expectations, but not exactly my [conscious] wants. (Ed. Note: Today ended up being a good one, regardless.) I implied in the title of my last entry that I’ve been drawing swords & wands (and their equivalent Anglo-French suits) with improbable frequency, to say the least. The pattern has persisted; in fact, it’s started to bleed into those around me and they’ve been drawing more of those suits too. When that started happening a friend asked what I did, to which I responded truthfully that I wish I knew. The statistician in me is fascinated.
Cool and normal! Definitely not a sign of things to come!
Classes have been fine, fairly unremarkable; mostly I’m preparing for midterms. As I write this, it’s almost 11. As usual, I have a bunch of thoughts, but I also want to actually update this blog (shocking, I know). Lunch today was a strip steak, air-fried to medium. It was quite good, very juicy, although air frying gives steak a more… consistent inner texture, if that makes sense? Less of a distinction between the outside and inside, IMO. I tried Lascala’s for dinner for the first time in the year I’ve been in Philly. My appetizer was a tray of garlic bread (which I dipped in ricotta and honey), and my main course was a bowl of gnocchi. I washed it all down with a black cherry [hard] seltzer. My hair’s been excellent these past few days- ever since Friday, I’d say. I’ve been trying a new shampoo, and I’ve found a new way to part it down the middle so it curls correctly.
Tear down the pylons
My deaf moons
Sing and burn
And orbit me
