2026-09-15: Now Is The Summer Of Our Discontent…

Made glorious autumn by this solar heart.

I have a few big posts in the works: one on the past few days (spoiler alert: they went very well), and another on tabletop RPG design (specifically 3e/Pathfinder, providing a worked example for the other Justin’s ancient post on the Alexandrian). But I figured I’d provide a brief update to prevent the scope of those posts from ballooning beyond my control.

It felt like I went to bed earlier than I actually did last night, likely because, for the final few hours I was awake, I did absolutely nothing of substance beyond some light creative writing. I left my friends on read, not out of malice but because nothing was urgent. My dreams were a return to form, dozens upon dozens, which felt like weeks or months internally. Each one more unnerving than the last. You’d think I’d do the sensible thing and quit while I was ahead, getting up around four or five this morning, but I was deep in sunk-cost fallacy. After all, it’s a popular and well-known fact that 90% of gamblers quit before winning big.

I got out of bed around 8:30, and condensed my morning routine into the bare essentials. I’m out of shaving cream, but I made an ersatz cream until I get a new canister, and it worked surprisingly well. Arguably better than the real thing. The weather’s finally getting nice; it was in the high 50s [degrees Freedom, so just under 15-ish degrees Commie] when I walked to campus this morning, and it’s in the 60s [20-ish] now. The high will be in the mid-70s [25-ish]. There’s a nice breeze, and the sun shines brightly, although I wish there were clouds to give the sky texture.

Tuesdays are weird because I have one class at 9 AM, Professional Responsibility, but usually have no obligations of note afterwards. The vibe is unusual, in my opinion, because a lot of people in similar situations as me leave campus; I’ve left campus for various reasons. But today I really am free. I asked the Prof a question about a lawyer’s duty of candor to the court (and to refrain from assisting a client in breaking the law) and a lawyer’s duty to advocate for their client’s objectives, and I’m satisfied with the answer I got. Afterward, I made small talk with a few people, then set up in the 3rd Floor Gallery, in my usual spot by the vending machines. I’ll probably go outside and enjoy the weather soon-ish. Maybe I’ll stop at the Board & Brew first and get some coffee. I skipped breakfast today.
